Groups for Caregivers

Connect with other caregivers and learn from child and youth mental health experts by participating in one of EveryMind’s online and in-person groups for caregivers. Registration is required for all groups.

Caregiver groups being offered in 2024-25 include:

Mom’s Group 

This group will help moms who are isolated and stressed connect with others, learn about themselves and learn how to manage their stressful lives. Moms will learn how to recognize and appreciate their strengths; how to practice self-care; how to access community resources to support them; and improve their stress management skills. This group has 8 sessions.

Learning About ADHD

Learn more about ADD/ADHD, including helpful parenting strategies, the role of medication, how to access resources and how to work collaboratively with the school system. Parents of children 6 to 12 years of age with an ADHD diagnosis will find this group helpful. Each cycle of this group has 6 sessions.

Grandparents Raising Grandchilden

This is a support group for grandparents who are parenting/caregiving a second time, raising their grandchildren.  Meeting with other grandparents, they will have the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns about caregiving in today’s society, understanding and supporting their grandchildren and their unique needs.  They will also explore their stressors and learn self-care and stress management strategies to help them cope with the many demands in their lives. This group has 6 sessions.

Circle of Security

Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you! The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

This training will help you:

  • Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read their emotional cues
  • Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of your child’s self-esteem
  • Honour your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

Each cycle of this group has 8 sessions.

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy Group

This workshop understands the important role caregivers play in their youth’s life and teaches Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) to caregivers, providing them with effective strategies that they can use to support their youth manage strong emotions. It gives parents/caregivers of children and youth aged 8 to 18 years the chance to learn and practice new caregiving skills. These workshops are led by highly skilled clinicians and gives caregivers the opportunity to ask questions and get support working through particular challenges they may be experiencing at home.

This workshop is for caregivers residing in Peel only. This group has either 2 full-day or 4 half-day sessions.

Parenting Your Anxious Child

This psychoeducational group will provide parents/caregivers with children ages 0-17 an opportunity to educate themselves on the following topics:

  • What is anxiety?
  • What does anxiety look like?
  • Avoidance
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Tools for communication

Parents will also discuss helpful and unhelpful parenting strategies for anxious children, relaxation strategies and the principles of exposure.

This workshop is for caregivers residing in Peel only. This group has 2 sessions.
