Workshops for Caregivers

To support you and your family’s mental health, staff from EveryMind are offering free workshops for caregivers on a wide range of topics such as supporting kids through stress and uncertainty, positive parenting strategies, managing challenging behavior, Gaming and Internet challenges, parenting strategies for teens etc. These workshops are offered both virtually, and in person at our main office at 85A Aventura Court, Mississauga, ON L5T 2Y6

These workshops are one-time, two-hour sessions designed to:

  • Share current information with parents on specific topics of interest and
  • Foster opportunities for parents to discuss issues with other parents.

Upcoming Workshops

The following online workshops will be facilitated by child and youth mental health specialists from EveryMind. Space is limited and reserved for caregivers.

The Value of ‘Being With’
(for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-8)

Based on the Circle of Security philosophy, this workshop will help parents understand that ‘Being With’ isn’t a technique but a state of mind of empathy for their child.  Caregivers will learn that creating a relationship with their child in which feelings can be shared helps build a solid emotional foundation for their child and helps develop a secure attachment.

Dealing with Family Conflict
(for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 6-17)

Conflict happens in every family. Learn what triggers conflict in your family and how to resolve conflicts between siblings, and between parents and their children. Learn how to avoid conflicts and create a peaceful home environment.

Managing Challenging Behaviour (for parents and caregivers of children ages 6-12)

Some childhood behaviours present significant challenges for parents to manage. This workshop will teach you how to effectively respond to noncompliant, aggressive, disruptive and disrespectful behavior.

Positive Parenting Strategies
(for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 0-17)

As a parent, balancing nurturing and understanding with setting reasonable expectations and discipline can be challenging. Learn positive parenting strategies that will encourage cooperation and responsibility while promoting self esteem and self-confidence.

Supporting Kids Through Stress & Uncertainty (for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 4-17)

Our children have been greatly impacted by the world around them.  In this workshop, parents will learn how to talk with their children about their feelings, how to share age appropriate information, how to be present and enjoy time together, and how to create routines.

Gaming & Internet Challenges
(for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 5-17)

This workshop will look at what makes gaming addictive and highlight youth who are most vulnerable to becoming addicted. It will also discuss the connections between gaming addictions, excessive internet use and mental health disorders. Additionally, the workshop will also provide parents with effective strategies for parenting young people who develop a gaming addiction and who also have mental health challenges. Parents will have an opportunity to share their experiences and discuss any concerns they have regarding gaming and their children.

Just for Moms
(for mothers of children/youth ages 0-17)

Being a mother can be very stressful, and it is important to take care of yourself! Learn how to manage stress in order to bring balance to your life, celebrate your strengths and feel good about being you!

Strategies for Children with ADHD
(for parents and caregivers of children ages 4-12)

ADHD can impact the social, emotional, behavioural and academic areas of a child’s life. Learn specific strategies to help manage the symptoms of ADHD and increase your child’s ability to be more successful in all areas of their life.

Helping Kids Manage Anger
(for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 6-17)

Managing one’s anger is a skill all children must develop. Learn how to help your child use relaxation techniques, problem-solving strategies and effective communication skills so they can manage their anger and frustration successfully.

Fostering Healthy Self-Esteem in Families
(For parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 0-17)

Children who feel good about themselves have an easier time handling conflicts and resisting negative pressures. In this workshop you will learn practical strategies to build your child’s self-esteem and self-confidence.

Creating Connections
(for mothers and their daughters ages 11-14)

During the adolescent years, sometimes mother-daughter relationships can become strained. The goal of this workshop is to provides mothers and daughters with an opportunity to practice respectful communication by using reflective listening, “I” statements and affirmations. Creative interactive activities that mothers and daughters will work on together will generate visual reinforcements of their communication goals. Mothers and daughters will attend this workshop together.

Managing Explosive Behaviour in Young Children
(for parents and caregivers of children ages 4-7)

Some children have difficulty tolerating frustration and solving problems. In this workshop you will learn how to prevent meltdowns, set realistic behavioral expectations, and help your child learn to problem-solve with you to manage their emotions and behaviors.

Solo Parenting
(for single parents of children/youth ages 0-17)

Single parenting comes with its own set of challenges for both the child and the parent. Learn parenting strategies to help balance your needs with those of your children, cope with stress and develop an effective support network for your family.

Just For Grandparents
(for caregivers of children/youth ages 0-17)

When grandparent find themselves raising their grandchild it can be confusing and overwhelming.  This workshop will allow grandparent to come together to support each other in this journey.

Calming Big Feelings with Mindfulness (for parents and caregivers of children ages 6 – 12)

Learn how to manage your children big emotional experience by using mindfulness-based strategies to reduce the intensity. Mindfulness techniques encourage children to learn how to be present with their emotions rather than be overcome by them. These techniques provide an opportunity for caregivers to connect and model them with their children by adding them into daily practice.

Just for Dads
(for fathers of children/youth ages 0-17)

Fathers experience many pressures and stressors in their role in today’s family. In this workshop you will learn how to manage the challenges of fathering and celebrate the important role you play in your children’s lives.

Fostering Your Child’s Development – The Many Benefits of Play
(for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-8)

Young children learn skills like cooperation, taking turns and patience through play. Play also provides parents with important opportunities to coach, model and encourage their child’s appropriate behaviour. Learn how to be involved in your child’s play in order to reinforce these skills, increase cooperation and reduce behavioural challenges.

Parenting in the Early Teen Years (for parents and caregivers of children/youth ages 12–14)

Developmental changes in the early teen years impact a young person’s needs and behaviours; these changes can also present challenges for parents. Learn strategies to cope with your teen’s struggles for independence and how to maintain a healthy relationship with them.
